The prototype gets built before anyone calls a customer, because building is what the team is good at. Six months and a working device later, someone finally makes the call that could have been made in week one. The answer is no.
The technology wasn't wrong. The order was.
The Problem
You have never seen the bill for this, which is why you have never fixed it.
A concept that died because the science didn't work and a concept that died because nobody tested the right thing first look identical from the outside. Same dead project, same explanation, same lesson written down. One of them was never going to work. The other one you killed by accident.
With one concept, that's a year. With forty, it's a decade — and nothing anywhere records it.
Evaluating a concept properly costs more than the concept looks like it's worth, so nobody does it. The backlog stops being a queue and becomes furniture: something you walk past, not something you work.

We make the difference legible before it costs you anything.
Titrant Applied Research is a deep-tech pre-incubator. We take foundational technology through the stage between a promising concept and something a customer, an investor, or a program officer will take seriously — then hand it off.
The method is narrow. Every concept rests on a handful of things that have to be true, and usually one of them is load-bearing. We find that one, we write down in advance what result would end the project, and we answer it first — with the cheapest test that can produce a real answer.
What you get back is a concept that either survived something, or died for a reason you can name. Both are worth more than what you had.
What we do
Build
You have a concept and an argument about it. More analysis produces more analysis. At some point the only way forward is to build the narrowest possible version and find out
Accelerate
You have more concepts than anyone can evaluate. No consistent way to compare them, and no defensible answer to why you're working on what you're working on.
Fund
The money exists and you qualify for it. But the proposal is a specialized document in a genre nobody on your team writes in.
Our Approach
We test before we build. Every engagement starts by naming the assumptions the concept rests on and ranking them by what it would cost to be wrong. We target the cheapest tests with the highest impact on whether the project should continue.
We build to find out, not to impress. A prototype is an instrument. Its job is to answer a question you can't answer any other way, and to be honest when the answer is no. Our success is measured on engagement outcomes, not billable hours.
You never pay twice for the same thing. Work done at one stage carries into the next. We don't rediscover what we already established and bill you for it again.
We say no. Not every concept should proceed. A documented dead end is a real deliverable, and telling you early is worth more than the capital you'd spend finding out slowly.
